What We Learn in Preschool!

Updated: Apr 18

I don't know about you parents, but as a teacher, I find it overwhelming researching all the information there is to know and use to help our littles learn and retain the information we teach. It is always "innovative this" and "rigor that." That is great and all, but sometimes you want to get to the point, clear and precise. So, below I have found and created a list of what we learn in preschool and easy "at-home" activities you can do at home with your little. It is easy and fun!

Numbers, Counting and Pre-Math Skills

Preschool is where your child will learn the basic foundations of math and reading. For math, this includes, recognizing and naming numbers, counting up to 20, understanding that numbers and objects correspond, and basic shapes that connect with geometry. Below are some activities you can do at home...

The above activity is the "Parking Lot" activity I got from B-Inspired Mama. You can get an old cardboard box to create the parking lot. Draw lines to make the spaces(preferably 10-15 spaces) as a starter. Write numbers inside the parking spaces and on the cars. Have your child match the numbers and cars by putting them in the correct spaces. Also, have them say the number they are matching.

Above are two ways to practice number recognition and number to object correspondence. It would be a very good idea to have to child point and count when they have finished setting. Use one point, number said, per object. One to one counting is very important to understand at this age.
