We are a nonprofit organization who wants to bridge the gaps between literacy and culture. Our primary goal is to build reading confidence, comprehension and foundations. There are many ways we plan to do that.
We are starting with quarterly events that immerse the students and their families into different cultures. Each event will have a different cultural theme. Our first theme is the Chinese New Year! During these events, the students will be exposed to the dance, language, calligraphy, crafts/arts and food of that culture. It is all about exposure! At the end of the event, the participants will be given a book to build their home library. This showcased book will be about that culture.
Eventually, we would like to start a Summer Reading Camp where we can tutor and teach reading, while also building problem solving and critical thinking skills through activities and fun crafts. This will be culturally themed, as well.
Reading is our passion here at Culture Books and we hope you join us, donate, work with us, or just check us out! We just want to sprinkle the love of literacy into each child, right where they are in their reading journey!
